Brighton Schools Not for Sale
People may remember how "Barrow Schools Not for Sale" launched a campaign against Academies which unseated the mayor and came within one vote of unseating his deputy.
Launched this week, the Brighton Schools Not for Sale campaign is fighting proposals to bring in an Academy at Falmer. They aim to alert teachers and the local community to the known dangers of academies and the loss of democratic control when religious sects or big businesses take over from elected local authorities.
They have a meeting on Wed 16th July at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre at 4 pm. Any members who live in Brighton might like to go along, particularly those with experience of the anti-academy campaigns.

Although my children have long since 'flown the nest',I retain an interest in matters of education and have seen, at first hand, the appalling results of government meddling in secondary education and FE as personified by youngsters, aged 20+, coming into employment, unable to spell or write grammatically let alone know what syntax means.
And as for general knowledge or matters of current affairs, geopolitical awareness, history and geography, maths and science, well, these all seem to count for nought.
For this government to persist with the Academies programme, which has clearly been shown to be a failure,is complete madness and shows a total disregard for the future of the nation's children.
I tried to log on to the on-line petition link without success; please check and advise.
The link does seem to work but it is erratic. This is a fault at their end. There is so much wrong with this government!
